Dining at Secrets Playa Blanca

One of the standout features of Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres is its exceptional dining experience. With nine restaurants offering a diverse array of cuisines, every meal felt like a new adventure and a celebration. Whether you’re craving fresh seafood, authentic Mexican dishes, or gourmet French cuisine, the resort’s culinary offerings are sure to impress.

Dress Code:

Before we proceed, Secrets resorts do their best to maintain the high standards and elegance of their properties.  While lunch has a much more relaxed vibe at the Market Buffet and outdoor restaurants like Seaside and Barefoot Grill, indoor dining will require a casual elegance dress code to include:

• Dress shoes, sneakers/tennis shoes
• Dress shirts with short or long sleeves
• Collared shirts, dresses, blouses
• Long pants for men for indoor seating
• Bermuda shorts or capri pants are acceptable for outdoor seating for dinner.
• Absolutely no sleeveless shirts, flip-flops for dinner restaurants
• For lunch dining, women must wear a bathing suit wrap or cover-up

Now, here’s a detailed look at the dining options that made our stay unforgettable.  The menus are very hard to search for on the web, but we have provided links for you below so you can plan your trip accordingly.  

1. Oceana: Fresh Seafood with a View 

Located by the pool with stunning ocean views, Oceana is the perfect spot for a relaxed yet elegant dining experience. The menu focuses on fresh seafood and grilled specialties. We highly recommend the sourdough bread (it’s legendary among guests!), the creamy spaghetti, and the Philly cheesesteak. For dessert, the warm chocolate cake with pistachio ice cream is a must-try.  

**Pro Tip: Oceana is open for lunch and dinner, making it a great option for a midday break or a romantic evening meal.  Ask when the catch of the day will be Sea Bass and plan accordingly.  This was the most delectable filet we’ve had ANYWHERE! 

2. El Patio: A Taste of Mexico 

For authentic Mexican flavors, El Patio is a must-visit. This restaurant celebrates the rich culinary traditions of Mexico, with dishes inspired by regions like Oaxaca and the Yucatán. Start with the shrimp aguachile (a zesty ceviche) or the guacamole and ribeye cracklings. For the main course, the Governor tacos (shrimp and cheese) and the chicken mole are standout dishes. Life Goal Travel Pro Tip: El Patio’s outdoor seating area is beautifully lit at night, creating a magical ambiance for dinner.  Ask for a Skinny Cadillac Margarita made with agave, Grand Marnier and tequila!  

3. Himitsu: Pan-Asian Delights 

If you’re a fan of Asian cuisine, Himitsu will not disappoint. This restaurant offers a mix of Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese dishes, including sushi, ramen, and wok-fried specialties. The gyozas and pork ramen were our favorites, and the tempura ice cream was the perfect way to end the meal. **Pro Tip: Make your Teppanyaki reservation as soon as you arrive—it’s a popular experience and fills up quickly!  Your building concierge can assist you with reservations 

4. Bordeaux: French Elegance 

For a touch of sophistication, Bordeaux offers classic French cuisine in an elegant setting. The meal begins with a cheese and bread cart, followed by dishes like escargot, duck foie gras, and lobster ravioli. **Pro Tip: Bordeaux is ideal for a romantic dinner. Pair your meal with a glass of wine from their extensive selection.  

5. Seaside Grill: Casual Beachside Dining 

Overlooking the beach, Seaside Grill is perfect for a relaxed lunch or dinner. The menu features fresh seafood, burgers, and salads. We loved the Playa Blanca salad and the shrimp tacos. For dessert, the pineapple mousse with vanilla ice cream was a refreshing treat.

6. Portofino: Italian Classics 

Portofino brings the flavors of Italy to the Caribbean. The menu includes classics like eggplant or Bolognese lasagna, risotto with beef broth, and chicken alla parmigiana. The tiramisu is a must-try dessert. Take a peek at Portofino’s full menu here!

7. Barefoot Grill: Poolside Bites 

For a quick snack or lunch by the pool, Barefoot Grill is the go-to spot. The menu includes favorites like beef nachos, chicken wings, and wood-fired pizza. The roasted red snapper with grilled vegetables was a standout dish as well as the fried calamary (the sauce!) and shrimp aguachile.  Try the beef tacos and Mexican hotdog on the beach without leaving your lounger (your beach server will be happy to bring Barefoot Grill menu items right to your beach chair!) 

Life Goal Travel Pro Tip: Barefoot Grill is open from 12:30 PM to 6:00 PM, making it perfect for a midday break.  Your beach server can bring you drinks and menu items from Barefoot grill right to your beach chair.    

8. Market Café: International Buffet 

For breakfast and lunch, Market Café offers a wide variety of international dishes in a buffet format. The made-to-order omelets and fresh juices are perfect for starting your day, while the lunch spread includes everything from grilled meats to fresh salads.

Open 24 hours, Coco Café is the perfect spot for a coffee break or a sweet treat. The Snickers dessert (a chocolate bar with layers of caramel and nuts) and the pistachio dessert were our favorites.  They also have small bites like sandwiches, ice cream, and fruit cups available most of the day.

10. Room Service: Dining in Comfort 

One of the perks of staying at Secrets Playa Blanca is the 24-hour room service. The menu (found here) includes a variety of options, from grilled fish and vegetables to New York strip and shrimp linguine. We loved ordering breakfast to our room and enjoying it on the balcony with a view of the ocean.  Plus, you can order beer or wine from their house wine selection and have Chardonnay, Merlot, Rose and more delivered right to your room! Cocktails must be picked up at the bar, they are not delivered with in-room dining.

The Pools and Beach: Pure Relaxation 

Secrets Playa Blanca features four pools, including an infinity pool, a social pool, and a secluded jungle pool.  By far, however, our favorite was the Preferred Club pool (included with your stay), which offered a tranquil atmosphere and attentive service. The beach is equally stunning, with soft white sand and crystal-clear waters. The beach was perfect for swimming, long walks and breathtaking sunsets. 

The Jungle Pool is very serene and a nice getaway from the busy pool activities or beach.  It’s a great place to do some remote work, read a book, or take a long nap in the shade. The drinks come quickly from the Sports Bar and the pool has a small lazy river with shady and sunny zones.  Bring your inflatable!  

Life Goal Travel Pro Tip #1: There’s a can’t-miss massage service for under $100 just 2 minutes away from the property along the beach.  It’s by no means 5-star but the masseuse is excellent!

The Secrets Spa by Pevonia is a must-visit. We indulged in a couples’ massage and the hydrotherapy circuit, which included a sauna, steam room, and water journey. It was the ultimate relaxation experience!

– Bring insulated cups: The Caribbean sun melts ice quickly, and these will keep your drinks cold on the beach and at the pool.  
– Pack long pants for dinner: Some restaurants require men to wear long pants (jeans are fine).  
– Tip generously: While gratuities are included, a little extra goes a long way in ensuring exceptional service. Bring $1 bills or you can ask your pool or beach server to break larger bills. They’re happy to exchange their Jacksons for a larger denomination.  A $10 tip to your Preferred Club beach/pool concierge goes a long way all week!  Elias was amazingly helpful! 
– Download the Hyatt Inclusive Collection app: It’s your go-to resource for everything at the resort. Click here for Apple or Android.  Request room service right from the app, schedule housekeeping services, book Bali bed rentals, and communicate special requests for amenities like orthopedic pillows, more water bottles & hangers, or an extra blanket.  It seems like they prioritize app requests and oftentimes were at our door within 15 minutes! 
–  Ask for a side of Mexican Abuelita chocolate with your in-room breakfast. This traditional Mexican hot chocolate is a delightful way to awaken your taste buds, whether enjoyed straight or splashed into your coffee. While not on the menu, a simple note in the “requests” section of your in-room tablet will ensure your wish is granted. 
– Check the weather forecast and book your spa treatments on a rainy day. The spa      tends to get busy when guests can’t enjoy the pool or beach. 
–Every bar has its own specialty drink menu.  Try a bar hop or run through the drink menu at the Preferred Club lounge.   
-If your visit is preceded by a storm, consider bringing water shoes. The rough tide can bring in seashells which can be cumbersome.  The beach is smooth and soft floored once the rough tide settles. 
-Bring your own OTC meds.  Pepto chewables are $20 at the gift shop and the conversion rate is $17 pesos/dollar vs the standard $20 pesos (at print time).
