My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Secrets Tides Punta Cana Beach Resort in January 2025, and it was nothing short of magical. As an all-inclusive, adults-only resort, Secrets Tides offers a perfect blend of relaxation, luxury, and adventure. From the moment we arrived, we were immersed in a world of modern elegance, impeccable service, and breathtaking views. The Resort: A Modern Oasis  

Secrets Tides Punta Cana is a relatively new property, and it shows in every detail. The resort’s design is sleek and contemporary, with open-air spaces, lush tropical landscaping, and stunning water features that create a serene atmosphere. The moment we stepped into the lobby, we were greeted with cool towels and a glass of champagne, setting the tone for the exceptional service we’d experience throughout our stay.  As Unlimited Vacation Club Gold Plus members, we were escorted to the VIP Preferred Club check-in desk where we were offered light snacks and a cocktail as we checked in comfortably. 

The resort’s layout is spacious, with a surprisingly long stretch of beachfront and multiple pools, each offering a different vibe. Whether you’re looking for a quiet spot to unwind or a lively pool scene, Secrets Tides has you covered. The beach is pristine, with ultra soft sand and soothing water, though the waves can be a bit strong for swimming. However, the pools more than make up for it, with swim-up bars, comfortable loungers, and plenty of shaded areas.  

The Rooms: Comfort and Luxury Combined 

We stayed in a Preferred Club Junior Suite swim out, and it was spectacular. The room was spacious, with a king-sized bed, a large terrace overlooking the beach & main pool, and a luxurious bathroom featuring a rainfall shower and double vanities. The modern touches, like Bluetooth speakers and a touch-screen control panel for the lights, added a high-tech feel to the space.  

One of the highlights of our room was the swim out pool just outside our room where we enjoyed some sun during the day and romantic evenings under the stars.  The pool is not completely private, but rather shared with two or more neighbors. The mini-bar was stocked daily with our favorite beverages, and the turndown service ensured our room was always pristine.

Dining: A Culinary Journey at Secrets Tides 

One of the standout features of Secrets Tides Punta Cana is its incredible dining options. With a variety of restaurants offering diverse cuisines, every meal felt like a new adventure.

Dress Code:

Before we proceed, Secrets resorts do their best to maintain the high standards and elegance of their properties.  While lunch has a much more relaxed vibe at the Market Buffet and outdoor restaurants like Seaside and Barefoot Grill, indoor dining will require a casual elegance dress code to include:

• Dress shoes, sneakers/tennis shoes
• Dress shirts with short or long sleeves
• Collared shirts, dresses, blouses
• Long pants for men for indoor seating
• Bermuda shorts or capri pants are acceptable for outdoor seating for dinner.
• Absolutely no sleeveless shirts, flip-flops for dinner restaurants
• For lunch dining, women must wear a bathing suit wrap or cover-up

Now, here’s a detailed look at the dining options that made our stay unforgettable.  The menus are very hard to search for on the web, but we have provided links for you below so you can plan your trip accordingly.  

 1. Tierra (South American Cuisine) 

Tierra was hands down our favorite restaurant at the resort. The ambiance is romantic and upscale, with dim lighting and tropical decor that made us feel like we were dining in a high-end retreat.  Check out the full menu here! 

Favorite Dishes: 

• Andean Steak: This perfectly grilled flank steak was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. Served with chimichurri sauce and roasted vegetables, it was a meal we still dream about. 
• Ceviche: Fresh, tangy, and bursting with citrus flavors, the ceviche was some of the best we’ve ever had. 
• Dessert: Don’t miss the chocolate lava cake—it was rich, gooey, and the perfect way to end the meal. 

2. El Patio (Mexican Cuisine) 

El Patio offered a vibrant and authentic Mexican dining experience. The colorful decor and lively atmosphere made it a fun spot for dinner.  We’ve visited many El Patio restaurants in other Secrets resorts, and this was by far our favorite.  We even took a minute to thank Chef Carlos for his creativity and authentic flavors! Favorite Dishes: 

• Birria Tacos: These tacos were a revelation—tender, slow-cooked beef in a rich, flavorful broth, served with fresh tortillas and a side of consommé for dipping. 
• Shrimp Aguachile: A refreshing and spicy shrimp dish marinated in lime and chili, perfect for seafood lovers. 
• Churros: Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and dusted with cinnamon sugar, these churros were served with a decadent caramel dipping sauce. 

3. Seaside Grill (Seafood & Steak) 

Located right by the beach, Seaside Grill offered a casual yet elegant dining experience with stunning ocean views.  This is an outdoor restaurant so be aware there’s no air-conditioning, but they welcomed flip-flops, and swimwear (no sleeveless shirts, though).  Click here to view the full menu! 

Favorite Dishes: 

• T-Bone Steak: Cooked to perfection and HUGE, this steak was juicy and flavorful, served with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. 
• Seafood Brochette: A skewer of shrimp, scallops, and fish, grilled to perfection and served with a tangy citrus sauce. 
• Cheesecake: Creamy and rich, this dessert was the perfect way to end our meal. 

4. Oceana (Mediterranean Cuisine) 

Oceana was our go-to spot for breakfast and lunch. The open-air setting and ocean views made every meal feel special.   This is the Preferred Club-only restaurant for breakfast.  Click here for the secret menu!

5. Meraki (Pan-Asian Cuisine)

• Favorite Dishes: 

• Shrimp Pad Thai: A flavorful and satisfying dish with perfectly cooked shrimp, rice noodles, and a tangy tamarind sauce. 
• Beef and Mushroom Wok Yakisoba:  Tender strips of beef and mushrooms stir-fried with noodles in a savory sauce. 
• Sushi Rolls: The spicy tuna and California rolls were fresh and delicious. 

6. Portofino (Italian Cuisine) 

Portofino provided a taste of Italy with its elegant setting and classic dishes.  You can find the full menu here! 

Favorite Dishes: 

• Lasagna Bolognese: Layers of pasta, rich meat sauce, and creamy béchamel—comfort food at its finest. 
• Mushroom Risotto: Creamy and flavorful, this dish was a standout. 
• Tiramisu: A classic dessert done right, with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and mascarpone cream. 

7. Barefoot Grill (Casual Poolside Dining) 

For a quick bite by the pool or beach, Barefoot Grill was the perfect spot.  Here’s a peek at the full menu! 

Favorite Dishes: 

• Pepperoni Pizza: Crispy crust with fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni and basil.  Ask for mushrooms and add veggies to lessen the guilt! 
• Chili Cheese Fries: A guilty pleasure that hit the spot every time. 
• Grilled Chicken Sandwich: Juicy chicken breast with lettuce, tomato, and a tangy sauce, served with crispy fries. 

8. Coco Café (24-Hour Coffee & Snacks) 

Coco Café was our go-to spot for coffee, pastries, and light snacks. 

Favorite Items: 

• Cortado: A perfect espresso with a touch of steamed milk. 
• Chocolate Croissant: Flaky, buttery, and filled with rich chocolate. 
• Ice Cream: A variety of flavors to satisfy any sweet tooth.

9. Market Cafe:  So Many Options at the Buffet 

For breakfast, lunch and dinner, Market Café offers a wide variety of international dishes in a buffet format. The made-to-order omelets and fresh juices are perfect for starting your day, while the lunch spread includes everything from grilled meats to fresh salads.  You MUST try the made to order wok bar…we still dream about the Asian stir fry!  Unlike other Secrets resorts, the Market Buffet here is open for dinner too!

10. Room Service: Dining in Comfort 

Room service at Secrets Tides was fast, reliable, and delicious. We loved ordering breakfast to enjoy on our patio while watching the sunrise.  We also ordered lunch a few times while we enjoyed the sun in our swim-out. 

Favorite Dishes: 

• Avocado Toast: Topped with poached eggs and a sprinkle of chili flakes. 
• Club Sandwich: A classic with turkey, con, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. 
• Pepperoni Pizza:  Surprisingly good! 
• Chocolate Fondue: A fun and indulgent treat with fresh fruit for dipping.

The Bar Scene: Cheers to Unlimited Luxury! 

One of the highlights of our stay at Secrets Tides Punta Cana was the resort’s impressive selection of bars. Each bar had its own unique vibe, and the talented bartenders crafted delicious cocktails that kept us coming back for more. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, enjoying the beach, or winding down after dinner, there’s a perfect spot to grab a drink. Here’s a detailed look at the bars and some of our favorite cocktails:   

1. Preferred Club Pool Bar 

This was our favorite spot during the day. Located near the exclusive Preferred Club pool, the bar offered premium spirits and personalized service. The bartenders, Jordy and Juan, were fantastic—friendly, attentive, and always ready to whip up something special. 

LifeGoalTravel Tip: Below is a list we created which you find find anywhere else:  The list of beer and liquors that are exclusive to Preferred Club guests!  If you do not have Preferred Club status, the Rendezvous bar is limited to Presidente beer, Coors Light and Heineken.  As for whiskey in non-Preferred bars, Johnny Walker Red is the best you’ll do, and for Tequila you can get Jose Cuervo (no Patron nor Don Julio in non-Preferred bars). 

Our favorite cocktails were: 

• Cadillac Margarita: Made with top-shelf tequila (Don Julio Reposado) and Grand Marnier, this margarita was smooth and perfectly balanced. 
• Mojito: Fresh mint, lime, and rum—a classic done right. Jorddy made the best mojitos on the resort. 
• Piña Colada: Creamy, tropical, and refreshing—perfect for sipping by the pool.

2. Rendezvous Lobby Bar 

The Rendezvous Bar, located in the open-air lobby, was our go-to spot for evening drinks. The ambiance was lively, with live music and a great social atmosphere. Alberto, the bartender, was a star—his mixology skills and friendly demeanor made every visit memorable. 

Favorite Cocktails: 

• Old Fashioned: The classic, made with Whiskey and bitters for a smoky, smooth, and utterly delicious. 
• Espresso Martini: Perfect for a post-dinner pick-me-up, this cocktail was rich, creamy, and packed a caffeinated punch. 
• Passion Fruit Caipirinha: A tropical take on the Brazilian classic, made with cachaça, fresh passion fruit, and lime. 

3. Manatee Swim-Up Bar 

There’s nothing better than sipping a cocktail while floating in the pool, and the Manatee Swim-Up Bar made that dream a reality. The bartenders here kept the energy high and the drinks flowing. 

Favorite Cocktails: 

• Miami Vice: A layered blend of piña colada and strawberry daiquiri—sweet, creamy, and oh-so-refreshing. 
• Frozen Mojito: A slushy version of the classic mojito, perfect for cooling off on a hot day. 
• Blue Lagoon: A vibrant mix of vodka, blue curaçao, and lemonade—as beautiful as it was tasty. 

4. Sugar Reef Pool & Beach Bar 

This outdoor bar had a fun, laid-back vibe, with games like pool, ping pong, and foosball nearby. It was a great spot to hang out with new friends and enjoy a casual drink. 

Favorite Cocktails: 

• Mango Tango: A fruity blend of rum, mango puree, and orange juice—tropical and refreshing. 
• Coconut Mojito: A twist on the classic, made with coconut rum and fresh mint. 
• Rum Punch: A Caribbean classic, packed with tropical flavors and a generous pour of rum. 

5. Desires Sports Bar 

For those looking to keep the party going, Desires Sports Bar was the place to be. The bar served up creative cocktails and kept the energy high with music and dancing. 

Favorite Cocktails: 

• Sex on the Beach: A fruity mix of vodka, peach schnapps, cranberry juice, and orange juice. 
• Long Island Iced Tea: A strong and boozy classic that never disappoints. 
• Neon Glow: A colorful cocktail made with vodka, blue curaçao, and       lemon-lime soda—perfect for the club’s vibrant atmosphere.

6. Coco Café Bar 

While primarily known for its coffee and pastries, Coco Café also offered a selection of alcoholic beverages, making it a great spot for a midday pick-me-up or a late-night treat.

• Irish Coffee: A warm and comforting blend of coffee, Irish whiskey, and whipped cream. 
• Baileys Latte: Creamy, sweet, and indulgent—perfect for dessert. 
• Spiked Hot Chocolate: Rich, chocolatey, and spiked with a shot of rum or Baileys.

7. Preferred Club Lounge Bar 

The Preferred Club Lounge offered a more intimate setting, with premium spirits and a relaxed atmosphere. It was the perfect spot to enjoy a quiet drink before or after dinner.   

This resort actually has THREE different Preferred Club bars — one on each side of the building, and one at the check-in desk.  The check-in PC bar has a comfy lounge indoors and a smoking area outdoors.

Tips for Enjoying the Bars 

1. Try the Local Rum: The Dominican Republic is known for its rum, so don’t miss the chance to try a classic rum-based cocktail like a Mamajuana (a local spiced rum drink, but be careful, our waiter said they call it “The Baby Maker”!) or a Cuba Libre.

2. Ask for Recommendations: The bartenders are incredibly knowledgeable and      love creating custom drinks based on your preferences. 

3. Bring an Insulated Cup: While the resort provides reusable plastic cups, bringing your own insulated cup helps keep your drinks cold longer, especially by the pool or beach. 

4. Tip Generously: While gratuities are included, the bartenders work hard to make your experience special. A little extra goes a long way in ensuring your get personalized service or a great vacation hack from the staff. 

The Spa: Pure Relaxation  

The Secrets Spa by Pevonia was a sanctuary of relaxation. We indulged in a couples’ massage, which included access to the hydrotherapy circuit. The warm pools, sauna, and cold showers were incredibly rejuvenating. The spa’s tranquil atmosphere and skilled therapists made it a highlight of our trip.  

For a more budget-friendly option, you can visit Tropical Treasures, a massage spot just a short walk down the beach. The 90-minute massage for $75 is a steal, and the ocean breeze added to the experience.  Or, get a massage right on your beach lounger from the many vendors walking the beach offering their services. 

Activities: Fun in the Sun  

Secrets Tides offers a wide range of activities to keep you entertained:  

– Daily Entertainment: From poolside yoga to dance classes, there was always something fun to do. The nightly shows in the open-air theater were a hit, especially the Dominican-themed performance.  

– Excursions: We heard the Marinarium Reef Explorer through Amstar, is a blast. Snorkeling with nurse sharks and stingrays would definitely be an unforgettable experience.  

– Beach Parties: The neon beach party was a highlight, with great music, dancing, and a stunning fire show.  

Standout Staff: Going Above and Beyond  

The staff at Secrets Tides truly made our stay exceptional. Here are a few standout team members:  

– Miguel (Preferred Club Check-in): Miguel went above and beyond to make our stay special. We really wanted to make sure we had the perfect room and he walked us to several rooms to ensure we would be happy with our accommodations.  Patient beyond words! 

– Coral (Preferred Pool Bar): Her infectious energy and delicious drinks made our pool days unforgettable.  

– Alberto (Rendezvous Bar): Alberto’s mixology skills and friendly demeanor made him a favorite.  

– Josefa’s attentive service and warm smile kept us coming back to the Preferred Pool.  She was so friendly and made our stay 100% better.  She even hand-crafted Cadillac Margaritas for us just the way we like them (pictured here).
